Oil on panel. Ernest Higgins Rigg was primarily a painter of landscapes, figure studies and flowers. He was born in Bradford in 1868 and studied at the Bradford School of Art before attending the Academie Julian in Paris. Just before and after the beginning of the 20th century, he was painting with other artists who had congregated in the Staithes area on the North Yorkshire Coast. He exhibited at a wide range of venues and was a Member of the Staithes Art Club. It is framed in a hand gilded and decorated frame.
