Victorian Mahogany Gillows Bonheur du Jour ca 1890
This beautiful antique Victorian mahogany Bonheur du jour / display cabinet is constructed in the style and quality of a Chippendale revival Waring & Gillows piece. The craftsmanship and quality of the fretwork is outstanding. The piece has a carved gallery above two glazed doors with key and working lock and the interior has two removable shelves. The lower section has a rectangular moulded top above two mahogany lined drawers with brass knobs and the piece stands on shaped legs.
The piece has a lower tier with gallery and all the edges are worked with either fretwork or blind fretwork. The piece is a rich dark red mahogany colour with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good original condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
